Julia Ruth Brown (she/ella) is an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literatures at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.
Two consecutive and impactful summers on exchange programs in agricultural communities in the departments of Intibucá, Honduras and Boaco, Nicaragua, respectively, motivated Julia to pursue a double bachelor's in Latin American Studies and Spanish. She subsequently completed her doctorate at the University of California, Santa Barbara, writing a dissertation on racialized environmental aesthetics in Mexican documentary of the 1970s.
Julia's research has earned numerous grants, including a Fulbright-García Robles award. She is co-editor of Women Photographers and Mexican Modernity: Framing the Twentieth Century.
